402\n\nSummary: This project leverages machine learning algorithms to des
ign and optimize structural color in paints and coatings. Structural color
\, produced by microscopic surface structures\, offers advantages over tra
ditional pigments in terms of durability and environmental friendliness. T
he research team is exploring different ML approaches\, including random s
earch and gradient-based optimization\, to maximize the color gamut achiev
able with structural color materials. The goal is to develop novel\, high-
performance paints and coatings with vibrant and long-lasting colors.\n\n-

project aims to optimize the aerosol jet printing (AJP) process for manuf
acturing reliable and high-performance flexible circuits. The research inv
olves studying the impact of various AJP process parameters (ink type\, fo
cus ratio\, print speed) on the mechanical and functional properties of th
e printed circuits. The team is using a combination of experimental techni
ques (optical microscopy\, laser profilometry\, electrical measurements) a
nd data-driven approaches like Bayesian optimization to identify the optim
al printing parameters for enhanced circuit performance and lifetime. Addi
tional investigations include drift and repeatability of the deposition fo
r a given optimized parameter set\, and effects of aging on the conductive
inks used for AJP.\n\n--- One tap mobile +13126266799\,\,93162871509# US

 o Panella\, Lead Data Tools Developer\, Bridgestone Americas\n\n12:30pm -
 1:00pm: MDS-Rely Update and Open Q & A with Center Leadership\n\nAbstract:
There are over 300 million new tires producedeach per year in the United
States. Tires are a complex blend of materials\,engineering\, and design.
The typical tire is made up of approximately 80-85%rubber compound by weig
ht. These compounds require constant improvement to meetthe changing deman
ds of customers (e.g.\, longer lifetimes\, better grip insnow/ice) and to
keep up with broader changes in society (e.g.\, environmentalsustainabilit
y\, transition to battery electric vehicles). For the past century\,the ti
re industry has accumulated vast amounts of data and expertise on rubberco
mpounds\, their compositions/properties\, and how these relate to tireperf
ormance.\n\nIn the last decade\, the chemical industry\, including tireand
rubber\, have started employing data driven approaches such as machinelea
rning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) for material development. Atyp
ical problem involves developing ML/AI models to predict compound properti
esusing information about the raw materials in the compound formula\, proc
essparameters\, and other relevant factors. The benefits of using ML/AI to
olsinclude accelerating the pace of product development by reducing the vo
lume ofexperimental testing needed and using the tools in an inverse fashi
on tosuggest compound formulas likely to achieve certain targets. However\
, therelationships between the rubber compound formulae and performance ar
 e complex.Nonlinearities\, missing/incomplete data\, noisy data\, sparsene
ss of the data\,and high-dimensional feature spaces pose technical challen
ges requiringexpertise at the intersection of material science and data sc
ience.\n\nThis presentation will discuss some of the uniqueopportunities a
nd challenges faced by scientists and engineers in the tire andrubber indu
stry responsible for data driven material development.\n\nPresenter Bio: R
occo Panella is a Lead Data Tools Developer in the WestMaterials Digitizat
ion Team at the Bridgestone Americas Technology Center inAkron\, Ohio. He
leads development on virtual materials discovery as well asother data scie
nce efforts in materials for Bridgestone. His prior experienceincludes dep
loying manufacturing-focused machine learning systems at Intel Corpand Nes
tle. Rocco also developed data visualization and analytics software forNAV
AIR as a principal engineer at BGI\, and was the principal investigator on
several Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grants through the Depar
tmentof Defense. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie
  MellonUniversity in 2013.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:This project investigates the role of defects in the intergranu
lar corrosion of metal alloys\, specifically focusing on Mo-Si-B alloys. T
he research utilizes laser additive manufacturing (AM) to introduce contro
lled surface defects and study their interaction with solutes in the mater
ial. The team is developing datasets on defect-solute interactions and usi
ng them to build predictive models for intergranular corrosion. This resea
rch will contribute to a better understanding of corrosion mechanisms and
enable the design of more durable and corrosion-resistant alloys.\n\nhttps

project aims to optimize the aerosol jet printing (AJP) process for manuf
acturing reliable and high-performance flexible circuits.

DESCRIPTION:MDS-Rely Technical Seminar\n\n\n\nEnhancing Battery Degradation
Analysis and Thermal Runaway Prediction\n\nThermal runaway (TR) represent
s the most critical safety challenge in lithium-ion battery technology—a
self-accelerating chain reaction causing internal temperatures to rise un
controllably\, and triggering exothermic decomposition that can result in
fire\, explosion\, or toxic gas release within seconds. As batteries scale
to power electric vehicles and grid storage\, a single cell failure can p
ropagate catastrophically through entire packs\, withincidents causing bil
lion-dollar recalls and loss of life. The push toward higher energy densit
ies only amplifies this risk\, making early detection and robust preventio
n essential frontiers in battery safety research.\n\nWe developed a scalab
le\, interpretable prediction framework that provides early-warning signal
 s for TR in lithium-ion batteries—addressing a critical gap in battery s
afety monitoring. Central to our contribution is a novel change-point dete
ction methodology that reframes TR onset as a statistical time-series prob
lem. In contrast to existing physics-based degradation models\, our data-d
riven approach extracts early-warning structure directly from signal behav
ior\, producing a detection strategy that is mathematically rigorous\, phy
sically intuitive\, and robust across heterogeneous operating conditions a
nd failure modes.\n\nBy combining rigorous statistical modeling with domai
n-aware signal design\, this presentation will discuss next-generation dia
gnostic systems that blend data-driven insights with engineering relevance
\, an essential combination for deployment in safety-critical environments
. Ultimately\, our goal is to support the development of more reliable and
resilient energy-storage technologies as their role in modern settings co
ntinue to expand.\n\n\n\nHeqiao Ruan is a Ph.D. student in Statistics at t
he University of Pittsburgh with research focus on Statistical Machine Lea
rning and Causal Inference. His research develops rigorous\, practical met
hodologies for understanding distribution shift in production ML systems
—with a focus on out-of-distribution detection\, online learning dynamic
s\, and interpretable model diagnostics. He holds an M.S. from the Univers
ity of California\, Davisand a B.S. from the University of Science and Tec
hnology of China.\n\nShubha Sankar Banerjee is a Ph.D. student in Statisti
cs at the University of Pittsburgh working on high-dimensional statistical
models\, theory and methodology. Working primarily to incorporate data pr
ivacy in complex systems\, his work focuses on bridging the gap between th
eory and its scalable implementation in domains involving sensitive high-d
imensional data. He holds a M.Sc. degree from Indian Institute of Technolo
 gy\, Kanpur\, India and B.Sc. degree from St. Xavier’s College\, Kolkata
 \, India.\n\nFri\, Feb 13\, 2026 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Ti

DESCRIPTION:Agenda\n\n12:00pm - 12:30pm: "AI Enabled Informatics for Rapid
Polymer Composite Innovation: A EMI Conductive Composite Case Study"\, Sh
rish Patel\, Lead Polymer Composite Engineer\, Eaton Corporation\n\n12:30p
 m - 1:00pm: MDS-Rely Update and Open Q & A with Center Leadership\n\nAbout
the Talk\n\nThis talk presents an AI‑enabled informatics framework that
accelerates the design of polymer composites through automated literature
  curation\, interpretable machine‑learning models\, and multiscale simul
ation. Using an EMI‑conductive composite case study\, it illustrates how
NLP extracts structured insights from scientific papers\, how ML models g
uide both forward and inverse design\, and how hybrid simulations—valida
ted through targeted experiments—capture the role of filler morphology a
nd dispersion on performance. Together\, these tools create a streamlined\
, data‑driven workflow that reduces manual experimentation and rapidly i
 dentifies high‑performance composite formulations.\n\nSpeaker Bio:\n\nSh
rish Patel is the Lead Polymer Composite Engineer at Eaton Corporation\, w
here he advances data‑driven and AI‑enabled approaches to accelerate t
he design of next‑generation polymer composites. His expertise includes
 composite formulation\, structure–property relationships\, and multifunc
tional material systems. Before joining Eaton\, Shrish completed his PhD i
n Materials Science and Engineer at Stony Brook University\, where his wor
k led to an R&D 100 Award and earning support from DOE and NSF SBIR progra
ms. At Eaton\, he develops composite solutions for electrical\, aerospace\
, and energy applications with a focus on sustainability\, lightweighting\
, and efficient materials development. His current work centers on creatin
g practical informatics frameworks that modernize how engineers design and
validate composite materials.\n\nYou can join the meeting here:\n\nhttps:

DESCRIPTION:[3D printer preparing object. · Free Stock Photo]\n\nSummary:
This project aims to optimize the aerosol jet printing (AJP) process for m
anufacturing reliable and high-performance flexible circuits. The research
involves studying the impact of various AJP process parameters (ink type\
, focus ratio\, print speed) on the mechanical and functional properties o
f the printed circuits. The team is using a combination of experimental te
chniques (optical microscopy\, laser profilometry\, electrical measurement
 s) and data-driven approaches like Bayesian optimization to identify the o
ptimal printing parameters for enhanced circuit performance and lifetime.
Additional investigations include drift and repeatability of the depositio
n for a given optimized parameter set\, and effects of aging on the conduc
 tive inks used for AJP.\n\n\n_____________________________________________

DESCRIPTION:[cid:E65404F8-7D7A-4AB5-8C9E-5F8B5AEA80E8]\nSummary: This proje
ct investigates the role of defects in the intergranular corrosion of meta
l alloys\, specifically focusing on Mo-Si-B alloys. The research utilizes
laser additive manufacturing (AM) to introduce controlled surface defects
and study their interaction with solutes in the material. The team is deve
loping datasets on defect-solute interactions and using them to build pred
ictive models for intergranular corrosion. This research will contribute t
o a better understanding of corrosion mechanisms and enable the design of
 more durable and corrosion-resistant alloys.\n____________________________

rmulation has emerged as a critical challenge across a range of technolog
ies important to energy supply\, stability\, and security. Colloidal suspe
nsion-based coatings are widely employed in applications ranging from func
tional films to coating layers important to energy conversion. However\, s
uch coatings often develop cracks during the drying process\, compromising
film integrity. This work experimentally investigates the influence of pa
rticle morphology on crack evolution in dried sessile drop films using a q
uantitative digital microscopy and image processing workflow. By systemati
cally introducing anisotropic\, fractal-shaped fumed silica particles into
formulations of spherical Ludox silica particles\, we uncover a distinct
structural transition. The dried films shift from classic radial cracking
patterns in pure Ludox formulations to predominantly orthoradial cracking
in fumed silica-rich films. This transition is driven by morphology-induce
d alterations in capillary stress distribution and film porosity during ev
aporation. These findings offer mechanistic insights into how particle ani
sotropy govern defect formation in nonequilibrium soft matter systems\, pr
oviding a framework to design crack-resistant functional coatings such as
fuel cell catalyst inks.\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nChris Wirth is an Associate Pro

DESCRIPTION:Title: Can Sonication Predict the Future? Developing Time-Sonic
ation Superposition for Polymer Degradation\n\nAbstract: Our long-term goa
l is to design sustainable polymer composites with controllable degradatio
n profiles that retain excellent mechanical performance during use but deg
rade predictably at end-of-life. As our work in these polymer-graphene oxi
de materials progressed\, it became clear that rational design of these ma
terials is fundamentally limited by our ability to predict the degradation
behavior of the underlying polymer matrices\, for which conventional weat
hering studies require months to years of testing. To address this challen
ge\, we are developing a new framework\, termed time-sonication superposit
ion\, that uses controlled ultrasonic excitation to accelerate aqueous pol
ymer degradation and establish quantitative relationships between accelera
ted and natural aging. By combining systematic degradation studies of comm
odity polymers with machine learning\, we aim to determine whether degrada
tion under sonication can accurately predict long-term environmental perfo
rmance while reducing characterization time by orders of magnitude. This f
ramework will provide a standardized approach for accelerated polymer degr
adation studies and serve as a foundation for the rational design of next-
generation sustainable polymer composites with predictable and tunable deg
radation profiles.\n\nBios: Stefanie Sydlik is an Associate Professor of C
hemistry at Carnegie Mellon University. Her research combines organic chem
istry\, polymer science\, nanomaterials\, and biomaterials to develop func
tional materials for applications in human health\, environmental remediat
ion\, and sustainable technologies. Her laboratory focuses on the design o
f polymeric and functional graphenic materials that control biological int
 eractions\, capture environmental contaminants\, and enable next-generatio
n regenerative and circular materials. Professor Sydlik received her B.S.
from Carnegie Mellon University and her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Insti
tute of Technology under Professor Timothy Swager\, followed by postdoctor
al training with Professor Robert Langer at MIT. Her research has been rec
ognized with numerous honors\, including selection as a World Economic For
um Young Scientist\, a Moore Inventor Fellow\, and an Alexander von Humbol
dt Fellow\, among other national and international awards. She collaborate
 s extensively with researchers across chemistry\, engineering\, medicine\,
and industry to translate fundamental materials discoveries into real-wor
ld technologies.\n\nJerry Wang is an Associate Professor of Civil and Envi
ronmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research combines
  statistical physics\, fluid mechanics\, statistics\, and high-performance
computing to advance fundamental theory and applied science relevant to s
ustainability and urban livability. His research group is particularly int
erested in molecular-scale modeling and design of fluids\, soft materials\
, and active materials. Professor Wang received his B.S. in Mechanical Eng

hanical Engineering and Computation from the Massachusetts Institute of Te
chnology with Professor Nicolas Hadjiconstantinou\, followed by postdoctor

research and teaching have been recognized with numerous honors\, includin
